1776 teams with Dell, Microsoft on new platform

D.C.-based startup incubator and technology seed fund 1776 will partner with #Dell Inc. and #Microsoft Corp. on a new online platform for startups, officials announced Wednesday.

The platform — called Union — is aimed at helping entrepreneurs connect with people, resources and education to take their idea "from seed to scale," officials said.

The platform was designed by 1776's team of engineers and will include resources like business building courses as well as connections to mentors, potential investors and customers.Capital Factory, a hub for startup activity in Austin, Texas, was the first group to sign up for the platform and is expected to play a key role, officials said.

"Smart entrepreneurs with highly promising ideas exist everywhere on the planet, and it's time to stop letting location limit young companies' ability to grow," said Donna Harris, co-founder and CEO of 1776.

This is the latest in a string of decidedly non-D.C. centric announcements for the District-based tech hub, which was founded three years ago and has expanded both locally and nationally at breakneck speed.
