Dell EMC's Documentum 7.3 content management solution caters to virtual servers as the organizations move to cloud storage models for their data.

#Dell #EMC has announced their latest version of their enterprise content management platform, #Documentum7.3 .

Dell EMC’s latest platform aims to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) by creating easier delivery and deployment of new applications and enabling a cloud-first strategy, to address the increased content management demands.

Dell EMC’s content management solution focuses on virtualization as organizations increase adoption of software-defined data centers (SDDCs) and virtual servers. Documentum 7.3 caters to virtual cloud deployments, simplifying the management and delivery of data.

"Today, nearly all enterprise organizations take a 'virtualized-server-only' approach to new applications in their datacenter," said Mark Arbour, Head of Product Management for Documentum Products, Dell EMC Enterprise Content Division.

A software-defined data center (SDDC), covers virtualization concepts geared toward automating and abstracting data center resources. Each element of the infrastructure including networking, security, and storage is virtualized and implemented as a service.

Virtualized infrastructure is growing as organizations seek to eliminate hardware expenses and give users quick access to data. Documentum uses cloud and virtualization concepts to reduce the number of physical or virtual servers required to run an application by using Docker application support.

Docker containers do not have separate operating systems and can share resources. Docker systems can host multiple configurations of the same application container, resulting in system performance benefits from the smaller footprint. Shared resources are better utilized which reduces hardware and operating costs.

Documentum 7.3 uses certified open source server stack functionality and is based on open source software, including Linux OS (Ubuntu, CentOS) and PostgreSQL database. By eliminating commercial software licensing, the potential cost of the content management solution drops significantly.
