#IBM has done a big shake-up of its hardware business and channel in the wake of a falling storage and systems business and in preparation for a push on its cognitive systems branding. Source told CRN that Big Blue has quietly shifted several executives in the storage, Power Systems, and channel areas, and some of those changes were also reported in the IBM-focused newsletter IT Jungle. The changes come after IBM on January 19 reported falling hardware sales for its fourth fiscal quarter of 2016, which ended December 31. IBM, in the fourth quarter, saw flat year-over-year sales in its cognitive systems and industry services business, and 2 percent growth in its technology services and cloud business. But it reported a 12 percent drop in hardware sales compared to last year's fourth fiscal quarter.
