The #OpenCompute Project Summit, sponsored by #Facebook and many other companies, is a major hardware event focusing on hyperscale data centers. One of the major topics at this annual event is digital storage. The 2017 OPC Summit included sessions and exhibits focusing on all types of digital storage including hard disk drives, flash memory (especially #NVMe interface) as well as optical media that are being used for various tiers of digital storage in modern data centers. Facebook’s scale represents the growing needs of #hyperscale cloud data centers for storage content. VJ Rao, Director of Technology Strategy for Facebook said that 100 million hours of video are watched on Facebook daily and 95+ million photos and videos are posted daily to Facebook. Working with all the data center operations required 7.5 quadrillion instructions per second. VJ showed a 10 year roadmap for what Facebook has been doing and plans to do in the next 10 years.
