Let’ see how technology advances also pose a threat to Oracle. The changing IT environment in favour of #SMAC (social, mobile, analytics, and cloud) revolution has led to significant growth in unstructured data like audio, video files, and big data. Furthermore, technology advances in SSDs (solid-state drives), computing, and memory have paved the way for new technologies like NoSQL. “NoSQL” (not only SQL) refers to broad, cloud-friendly classes of databases that are designed to handle semi-structured data. They don’t use SQL or query language. Hadoop is an open-source, distributed database processing platform that’s designed to store and analyze big data across several thousand nodes. #Bigdata and the increasing adoption of #Hadoop and #NoSQL have urged prominent cloud players, including #Oracle, #Microsoft (MSFT), and #Amazon (AMZN) to launch their own NoSQL-based database software. Oracle also joined this race and announced a new offering—Big Data SQL 3.0—in 2016.
