Hedvig Announces Its Distributed Storage Platform 3.0

Today #Hedvig announced the latest release of its software-defined storage ( #SDS ) platform, Hedvig #DistributedStoragePlatform version 3.0. The latest update contains innovations including end-to-end integrations, advanced security capabilities, and enhancements to the platfrom’s comprehensive suite of caching technologies. According to Hevig, these new capabilities will enable customers to store and protect virtualized, containerized, and backup workloads from a single platform.  More and more companies are looking to both SDS and multi-cloud platforms to store both their primary and secondary data. However, these new technologies requires new certifications, plugins, encryption, auditing, multitenancy, and flash-caching capabilities all of which can be found in the new Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform 3.0. The newly updated platform does this through new #CloudScale Plugins, #Hedvig #Encrypt360, and Hedvig #FlashFabric. The company has added new plugins to its existing #Docker and #OpenStack #CloudScale Plugins. CloudScale Plugins provide pretested, validated options that aim to make #SDS easier to use and operate. CloudScale Plugins now include: #Veritas #OpenStorage Technology ( #OST ) plugin. HPE, Hedvig announce hybrid cloud storage partnership

Hewlett-Packard Enterprise ( #HPE ) has partnered with a software-defined storage startup to create a hybrid cloud storage platform customized for HPE servers.

The platform is available in 48- and 96-terabyte configurations. They are aimed at enterprises deploying private, hybrid and multi-data center clouds. #Hedvig also said the combination supports private cloud storage for #VMware #vSphere, #Microsoft #HyperV and other hypervisors. The storage platform also supports hybrid cloud storage services running on Amazon Web Services ( #AWS ), #Microsoft #Azure and #Google Cloud Platform. 

The Hedvig software-defined storage technology merges disparate tiers of storage and unifies block, file and object interfaces in a single API-driven platform. The company said its software-defined approach is geared toward data-intensive cloud workloads.

Hedvig packages software-defined storage with HPE servers to deliver a scale-out, hybrid cloud storage offering

#Hedvig unveiled on Thursday a new offering bundled with Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( #HPE ) to enable rack-scale infrastructure aimed at enterprises building private, hybrid and multi-datacenter clouds. The Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform combines Hedvig software-defined storage with HPE Apollo 4200 servers and is available in 48- and 96-terabyte configurations. The pretested, validated solution is a rack-scale infrastructure designed for private, hybrid, and multi-datacenter cloud solutions. Joint customers benefit from improved time-to-market and lower the costs associated with data-driven, digital business services. The initial solution is available on Apollo 4200 servers, with Apollo 4500 and ProLiant server variants to follow. The joint Hedvig-HPE solution offers multi-protocol support to collapse disparate tiers of storage to unify block, file, and object interfaces in a single platform. Eliminate the need for disparate SAN, NAS, and object storage and collapse traditional tiers by selecting workload-optimized servers. It also fine-tunes data services such as replication, deduplication, and compression on a per-application basis and seamlessly provision storage from any hypervisor or container system. HPE bankrolls software-defined storage start-up

#HewlettPackardEnterprise ( #HPE ) has bankrolled #softwaredefinedstorage start-up #Hedvig, joining other investors in a US$21.5 million round to grow the new company. The two-year-old vendor provides software-defined storage for enterprises building private, hybrid, or multi-cloud environments. The Hedvig #DistributedStoragePlatform consolidates block, file, and #objectstorage into a single, API-driven platform. With a total of US$52 million in financing to date, Hedvig said it will use the latest round of funding to expand into new markets, develop cloud and backup solutions for large enterprises and grow its engineering, sales and channel teams.

HPE bets on software-defined storage startup Hedvig

California-based startup #Hedvig , a developer of software-defined storage (SDS) solutions, has raised $21.5m in a series C funding to expand into Asian market. The funding has been provided by #HewlettPackardPathfinder, the venture capital arm of Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( #HPE ); EDBI, the investment arm of Singapore Economic Development Board, Atlantic Bridge Ventures, Oman Technology Fund, True Ventures and Vertex Ventures. Hedvig was launched in 2015 by Avinash Lakshman and it offers #SDS services for enterprises building cloud environments through its distributed storage approach. Software-defined storage is a data storage approach where the programming that controls the storage-related tasks is separated from physical storage hardware. In SDS services, there is a huge emphasis on storage-related services rather than the storage hardware. The software used in the storage environment can be used for data management including deduplication, replication, thin provisioning, snapshots and backup. With the new round of funding, Hedvig is poised to pursue new markets and to develop end-to-end cloud and backup solutions for large enterprises. It plans to pursue the Asia Pacific market with the new funding. It says that region has shown a significant increase in the demand for SDS services and estimates the market to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 32% through 2022. The company estimates that the software-defined storage will be a $7bn market in the near future and plans to explore this emerging market. According to Hedvig, about 75% of businesses are expected to become digital by 2020 and notes that many of the organisations are faced with the high cost of migrating to and operating in the cloud. The company says that it offers services which can remove such bottlenecks using its Universal Data Plane, which is claimed to be a hyperscale architecture.
