#IBM has urged customers to destroy USB drives which shipped with some of its #Storewize storage systems because they may contain malware. In a support advisory, the company has said an unspecified number of USB flash drives containing the Storewize initialisation tool for #V3500, #V3700, and #V5000 Gen 1 systems are infected with malicious code.

In his first in-depth interview since rejoining #IBM, Walsh highlighted IBM flash storage, cloud and cognitive computing as the keys to executing a storage turnaround. Walsh has been CEO at four startups, most recently at copy data management specialist #CatalogicSoftware. He also had an earlier stint at IBM. Walsh was CEO of #Storwize when IBM acquired the primary data compression vendor in 2010, and he stayed at IBM as a vice president of IBM storage until 2013. Walsh was also CEO of backup data deduplication pioneer #Avamar Technologies, selling that startup to EMC in 2006. IBM rounded out its flash portfolio last year with FlashSystem A9000 cloud arrays, adding to its Storwize and DS8880 hybrid flash systems. The FlashSystem is based on custom flash modules and runs the IBM Spectrum Accelerate codebase.
#Veeam Software made a few announcements recently with the largest being a new product, the Veeam Availability Platform for the Hybrid Cloud. Along with they new platform, Veeam is announcing primary storage integration with the IBM #Storwize family and #IBM SVC platform (to be including in Veeam Availability Suite v10). And Veeam unveiled new capabilities to support #Microsoft365.
The digital landscape has been in a state of flux over the last few years. Take the cloud for instance. At one time it wasn’t trusted, it soon moved to trusted status and a potential competitive advantage, now most companies have adopted a cloud-first strategy as a tool of survival. Providing availability for workloads across any cloud or location, to maximize IT investments and increase flexibility. And proactive monitoring, reporting, testing and documentation to ensure business and regulatory requirements are met.
