#Lenovo and #Juniper have set up a strategic alliance to build converged, hyper-converged and hyper-scale data centre infrastructure products for enterprise and web-scale customers.
Lenovo contributes x86-based servers and switches. Juniper has a portfolio of routers, switches, network management software, network security products and software-defined networking technology.
Customers will be able to purchase Juniper networking products and support directly from LenovoJuniper and Lenovo will bring #ONIE (Open Network Install Environment) products to marketThey will offer simplified management and orchestration in the data centre with Lenovo’s xClarity management software and Juniper’s Network Director and #Contrail #SDN softwareThey will collaborate on a worldwide go-to-market basis to target enterprise customers, service providers, channel partners and system integratorsThey will develop joint go-to-market plans and a tailor-made resell model to meet localisation requirements in China
Gerry Smith, Lenovo’s EVP and COO for its PC and Enterprise Business Group, said: “Lenovo is on a mission to become the market leader in data center solutions. … Our partnership with Juniper Networks provides Lenovo access to an industry leading portfolio of products that include Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions – essential for state-of-the-art data centre offerings.”
But where is the storage component in its hyper-converged and converged system offerings? Something else is coming and it's probably a software-defined hyper-converged storage technology – meaning #Atlantis, #DataCore, #Maxta or #SpringPath (#Cisco permitting).
