Huawei invest $6m in Nigeria

Chinese telecoms vendor company, #Huawei Technologies #NigeriaLimited, said it had invested about $6 million into driving the usage of cloud technology in the country as part of its efforts of increasing its presence in the economy. The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Frank Li, disclosed this during the launching of the Huawei Innovation and Experience Centre, covering about 500 square metres under the concept of “Cloud”, which enables visitors to share Huawei global resources. While explaining that the company is committed to investment of industry innovation driven by both customer needs and new technologies, Li assured that Huawei will continuously adhere to its strategic focus, investment, and the relentless pursuit of strategic breakthrough to face all challenges together with its partners. According to him, the continuous investment and resources will be put into ICT innovation to drive the digital economy in Nigeria and in other African countries inviting all players in the industry to join and enjoy its unique contents. The Cloud centre also offers technology savvy opportunity to witness global best practice, exchange ideas, and explore business solutions through innovation and also a platform to develop winwin ICT eco-system. He said that latest cutting edge ICT technologies such as 4.5G, Internet of Things and digital service innovation, would be deployed on this platform. Following the launching of the Centre, the company also unveiled plans to sign an MOU with the University of Lagos to serve as a training platform to nurture more ICT talents in the country. In his remarks, the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, who commissioned the project, expressed appreciation on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria to Huawei Technologies for partnering with the Ministry in the area of human and institutional capacity development.
