VMware Reports 2Q18 & vSAN Looks To Hit 10,000 Customers

Today #VMware Inc. reported its second quarter 2018 earnings. VMware continues to be one of the top players in the #HCI field and looks to stay there with today’s announcement. Going into #VMworld2017, VMware is not only announcing some good numbers, but it looks likely to surpass the milestone of 10,000 customers for #vSAN. As far as numbers for the quarter go, VMware is reporting revenue of $1.9 billion for the fourth quarter, up 12.2% from the same time last year. About half of that revenue came from license revenue, $732 million. GAAP net income was $334 million ($0.81 per diluted share) up 30% from last year. Non-GAAP net income was $489 million ($1.19 per diluted share), up 22% from last year’s $414 million. GAAP operating income for this quarter was $338 million, up 5% from last year, and non-GAAP operating income was $585 million, up 15% from the same time last year. Operating cash flow for this quarter was $620 million and free cash flow as $563 million. VMware reported that bookings grew year over year by 150%. Over the last few months we have reported as vSAN has surpassed first 5,500 customers and then blew right past 7,000. At the rate it is climbing it should hit over 10,000 customers next week when VMworld 2017 is taking place in Las Vegas. VMware has previously announced that it intends to authorize $1 billion for stock repurchases through August 31, 2018, in addition to the $900 million authorized amount remaining in the ongoing $1.2 billion stock repurchase program for fiscal 2018, originally announced in January 2017.
