An upsurge in research and development activities associated with gold nanoparticles The global gold nanoparticles market is expected to witness a healthy growth backed by increasing research and development activities pertaining to the potential applications of gold nanoparticles, especially in the field of nanotechnology. As per numerous research and development activities, the market is anticipated to penetrate a range of applications exponentially during the forecast period. Kshama Upadhayay, a lead metals and minerals research analyst at Technavio, says, “Gold nanoparticles in plant plastids, when injected into plant cells, enhance the biosynthesis. This process helps in assessing the performance of gold nanoparticles in plant cells. Therefore, they can be employed in a host of potential applications. The global gold nanoparticles market witnessed an influx of research and development activities, particularly in North America.” Increasing adoption of ultra-light materials favoring demand for compact electronic devices One of the prominent reasons for the increasing application of gold nanoparticles in optics and glass is their weight. The ultra-light weight of gold nanoparticles makes their surface area very high when compared with that of bulk substances. This offers the features of bulk substances confined to compact spaces for similar or same functionality using less space and weight. “The increasing adoption of ultra-thin materials is further strengthened by a global inclination toward compact electronic devices. The market has witnessed an increasing demand for compact storage devices and electronic biosensors that include the application of gold nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles nanowires and inks find application in assemblies of compact storage devices and electronic biosensors,” adds Kshama. Increasing demand from commercial applications The market has witnessed high demand in the field of dentistry, which has led to a robust growth of the market. Gold nanoparticles are considered as potential osteogenic agents owing to their influence on osteoblast differentiation stimulation. They are notably used in titanium dental implant surfaces, the demand for which has been driving the global market. Gold nanoparticles are also used as contrast agents in dentistry for the OCT (optical coherence tomography) technique. The production and development of gold nanoparticles within dentinal tubules and layers to assist in visualizing structures in a non-destructive and non-invasive manner is a new trend in the market. Light guides the gold nanoparticles growing position

A photochemical method using ultraviolet (UV) light is considered as an alternative fast and green method for preparing NPs when it reduces metal salts to #nanoparticles in the presence of a photoinitiator. A co-initiator connected on the carriers along with a type II photoinitiator in solution can reduce AuNPs only on the surface of the carriers under UV irradiation. It works with the type II photoinitiator abstracting a hydrogen from the co-initiator turning it into a real radical which reduces the metal salt.

The multidisciplinary team, which includes researchers from Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Changzhou Institute of Advanced Materials, investigated this photochemical method and the magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4NPs). The researchers connect one kind of co-initiator (PEI) to Fe3O4 NPs and perform regional selective construction of nano-Au on magnetic nanoparticles by photoreduction with no free AuNPs found to be floating in the solution.

High catalytic performance

The prepared catalysts demonstrate high catalytic performance in the reduction of organic pollutants. Considering the adjustable wavelengths of the type II photoinitiator, this kind of photoreduction process is expected to be possible under visible light, such as sunlight making it practical for catalytic applications.
