The acquisition of #SanDisk by #WesternDigital creates a new force in the storage world, providing a path for Western Digital (with its newly integrated HGST division) to push both HDD and flash memory solutions. Enterprise flash products have been introduced by #Dell and Trintri, showing the continued expansion of flash memory as an accelerator for high performance applications.
Western Digital recently completed its acquisition of long time flash memory manufacturer SanDisk. Western Digital offers some high performance flash memory-based SSDs, but the bulk of its business has been in HDDs. With the SanDisk acquisition Western Digital acquired performance and client SSDs, some flash systems products and flash oriented software management products as well as consumer products such as flash memory cards. With this acquisition Western Digital establishes itself as a full range storage company filling consumer, client and enterprise needs and able to balance performance as well as economy storage products.
