Microsoft's move boosts Detroit's credibility as tech hub

Detroit's hopes of growing a world-class technology hub in the city took a big step ahead Friday with the announcement that software giant #Microsoft will move downtown from the suburbs.

Detroit's hopes of growing a world-class technology hub in the city took a big step ahead Friday with the announcement that software giant Microsoft will move downtown from the suburbs.

Mayor Mike Duggan and businessman Dan Gilbert teamed to announce that Microsoft was indeed the widely rumored major new tenant moving from its 30-year home in Southfield to the One Campus Martius building downtown.
Microsoft will take about 40,000 square feet of space including moving a Microsoft Technology Center into the building. One of about 40 such centers around the world, the centers are places where Microsoft clients come to work on projects with the company's technicians.
"We are strongly committed to Detroit's thriving technology hub by providing resources and experienced team members to help your team find solutions to its technology challenges," said Phil Sorgen, corporate vice president for Microsoft.
