Worldwide Server Sales For Q3 2017 @DellTechnologies and @IBM are winning share in the global server market from leader @Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which lost more than 4 percent share during the third quarter of 2017, according to data from IT research firm IDC. Of the top five leading vendors, @Lenovo saw the biggest revenue percentage drop year over year, while original design manufacturer (ODM) direct sales jumped 45 percent. Worldwide server revenue increased 20 percent to $17 billion in the third quarter of 2017 compared with the same quarter one year ago as the market strengthened after several slow quarters. HPE-New H3C Group remains the leader in the global server market with 19.5 percent share. However, sales decreased 1 percent and the company's market share dropped 4.2 percent year over year. Palo Alto, Calif.-based HPE generated $3.31 billion in revenue, down from $3.35 billion during the same quarter in 2016. HPE server shipments also dropped to 501 million units in third-quarter 2017 from 510 million in third-quarter 2016 .
"HPE has been pivoting away from hyper-scaler business and focusing on the enterprise, hurting year-over-year comparisons in the short term, but showing strength in the enterprise," said Kuba Stolarski, IDC's research director of computing platforms.
