Intel Posing A New Threat To IBM

The growing popularity of hyper-converged infrastructure based on #Intel ’s x86 processors is a new threat for #IBM. IBM can’t afford to sit idle without venturing into #hyperconvergedinfrastructure. All IBM needs is a change in outlook and current server strategy. Hyper-converged appliances running on Intel's (NASDAQ:INTC) commodity x86 processors are fast gaining traction in datacenters around the world, which could be a threat for IBM's (NYSE:IBM) server business. For Intel, however, this could be a boon because it will support the demand for Xeon chips. It's well-known that IBM is an ardent advocate of bare-metal infrastructure, not virtualization-based hyper-converged infrastructure. However, the growing popularity of hyper-converged infrastructure could be a missed opportunity for the company if it continues to be reluctant to offer customers hyper-converged software
