Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct powers the new StarWind HyperConverged Appliance

Middleton, Sept. 28, 2016 –  #StarWindSoftware, a leading #hyperconverged solutions vendor, has presented the new release of their StarWind HyperConverged Appliance powered by #Microsoft S2D. Now, in addition to choosing a preferred hypervisor, StarWind HCA also provides Software-Defined Storage options. Thus, Microsoft users can enjoy the environment they are used to. The news is presented at Microsoft Ignite 2016 in Atlanta, along with a non-disruptive way to add Azure to the setup as a storage tier. StarWind is a pioneer of virtualization and has been in the market for 11 years already. StarWind developed its own software-defined storage product, and was one of the first to move software-defined storage out of “test and development” niche into mainstream. In 2015, the company shifted from a software-only to hardware vendor. With the release of HyperConverged Appliance, StarWind has brought Enterprise-class hyperconvergence to SMB and ROBO. StarWind HyperConverged Appliance (HCA) is a turnkey hyperconverged platform that includes commodity hardware, disks and flash, hypervisor of choice, Software-Defined Storage of choice and associated software, all unified into an easily manageable tier. It is pre-built, pre-configured and pre-tested by StarWind engineers. StarWind HCA is designed with unlimited interoperability in mind, which means it can seamlessly merge with any IT infrastructure and allows the user to recycle existing or legacy hardware and software to save money. Another recent StarWind development that is now presented at Microsoft Ignite, is AcloudA – the plug-and-play Azure gateway that fits into HDD bay, providing SMB3 and iSCSI cloud connectivity. Basically, it adds Azure or any other cloud storage as a tier for cold data non-disruptively, thus reducing capacity CapEx and OpEx.
