Michael Dell keeping eyes on PC prize

#DellTechnologies CEO and chairman Michael Dell is still focused on the PC as a center point of the technology giant's strategy, delegates of #DellEMC World in Las Vegas, NV heard today, During the event's opening keynote, Dell Technologies' chief emphasized that the hardware remains on the forefront of his approach.

To make it extremely clear, once again the PC business remains core to our mission and our strategy. It's how work gets done, and as we look ahead, PCs provide powerful distributed infrastructure for IT, artificial reality and virtual reality," Dell said.

In a press conference following the keynote, Dell further elaborated, adding that PC is still "very important" to both Dell Technologies and its customers, noting that average selling prices for PCs have been going up, while Dell Technologies' market share in the space has increased 17 quarters in a row.

"Clearly there's a market consolidation, and that business gives us incredible scale. I also think if you think about the Internet of Things [IoT], the parents of the IoT are PCs, so we're learning a lot about the future of distributed computing from all the work we've done in the client business," Dell said,

In addition, the realization of 5G cellular networks will bring a rise in data volumes, as well as increasingly distributed computing environments, Dell claimed.

As a result, Dell said the company is poised to take on changes in the PC market and in workplace transformation, while handling competition.

"[Dell Technologies] is number one in revenues in that space relative to our competitors and number one in profits too. We're not number one in units, but the units we sell are more valuable than the other guys," Dell said.
