ByTiernan Ray May 23, 2017 2:58 p.m. ET Maxim Group’s Nehal Chokshi today reiterates a Buy rating on shares of #Splunk (SPLK), the software provider that helps firms’ analyze seems of data, writing that it is still his “Top Pick” for big data jobs, even as several analysts today laud the# prospects of competitor Cloudera (CLDR). Chockshi, who started coverage back in February of last year, was initially worried that Cloudera would be the company’s “biggest threat." Since then, Cisco Systems (CSCO) bought AppDynamics for $3.9 billion in January, and now Cisco is "our bigger concern with respect to investing in SPLK, especially since APPD can theoretically leverage the strong balance sheet of CSCO to drive greater S&M scale and invest more aggressively in R&D to broaden out the capability from just Application Performance Management to include SIEM, ITOM and Business Intelligence.
