Dell Technologies bets on growing demand for hybrid and multicloud solutions

In its first earnings results as a combined company, #DellTechnologies reported overall revenue of $16.2 billion for 3Q16, with its Infrastructure Solutions Group posting revenue of approximately $6 billion and its Client Solutions Group reaching revenue of $9.2 billion. Results include 52 days of #EMC and #VMware financials, but nonetheless provide an early glimpse into how the combined company will perform against other infrastructure-centric peers like Hewlett Packard Enterprise ( #HPE ). Dell Technologies stated three high-level corporate strategy goals on its earnings call, which center on its ability to deliver solutions that support complex hybrid IT and multicloud environments. First, Dell Technologies will use the strengths of both Dell and EMC to expand its market position in Client Solutions and IT infrastructure across on- and off-premises workloads. Second, the company will focus on expanding its place as a provider of IT infrastructure for cloud-native workloads, whether those are located on premises or off premises. Third, Dell Technologies will bring to market technologies that better unify and support customers’ hybrid IT applications and infrastructure. Though Dell Technologies continues to be in a state of transition following the formal sales of its #DellSoftwareGroup and #DellServices ( #Perot ) segment, the company has doubled down on its messaging, highlighting its now larger scale and more focused desire to provide customers with infrastructure offerings that span their traditional and cloud environments.

NTT Data closes acquisition of Dell Services

#NTTData closed its $3.1 billion acquisition of #DellServices on November 2, finalizing a deal that should help the Japanese company come closer to its goal of becoming one of the top five global IT services providers.

The newly acquired business will on an interim basis be called NTT DATA Services. NTT Data CEO John McCain will have overall responsibility for leading the business, while Suresh Vaswani, formerly president of Dell Services, will serve as president of NTT DATA Services.

NTT Data was already a leading firm in the IT services sector, with approximately $16 billion in global revenue and employees in more than 50 countries. However, the market has seen some notable shifts as offshore providers grow and pure cloud providers like AWS and Google gain market share. Additionally, the sector has seen other deals like NTT's acquisition of Dell Services, such as HPE's decision to spin off its IT services business and merge it with CSC.

For its part, NTT Data -- which is part of the Japanese conglomerate NTT Group -- has been aggressively acquiring other businesses for several years to expand its global reach. The Dell Services acquisition was significant in that there was less than 10 percent client overlap between the two companies, even though they share complementary portfolios.

"Bringing Dell on board really provides additional breadth and scale to a portfolio we've been marketing for many decades," NTT Data president Marv Mouchawar told ZDNet.

In order to capitalize on that, "we'll continue to drive our first and foremost priority, which is ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and unwavering commitment to our clients' success," Mouchawar said, calling that level of service "a key differentiator for us in the marketplace."

Dell Might Complete Acquisition of EMC Corp This Week [Report]

#Dell is on track to get approval from Chinese regulators and close its historically large acquisition of #EMC Corp ($EMC) by the end of this week, according to a story in the New York Post. Sources cited by the Post say Michael Dell spoke directly with Chinese regulators to help win approval of Dell's $63 billion purchase of EMC. That regulatory hurdle is the last thing standing in the way of the acquisition. Officially, Dell has said that the deal would close by October. But Dell and Silver Lake Partners have obtained debt financing and sold off several business entities faster than expected. EMC shareholders voted overwhelmingly in favor of the deal in July. To accommodate the largest tech deal in history, Dell has raised $50 billion in debt. It also divested of #SecureWorks through an IPO and sold off #PerotSystems and #DellSoftware Group, which included #QuestSoftware and #SonicWall.

With Dell Acquisition, NTT DATA Moves Closer to Being World’s Fifth-Largest Systems Integrator: Tim Conway

#NTTDATA has moved one step closer to becoming the world’s fifth-largest systems integrator. In late March, the systems integration company, which currently ranks No. 6 in the world, announced plans to acquire #DellServices, accelerating the company’s ascent as a global IT services partner. “When you look at what this [Dell Services acquisition] does for us – in the U.S. alone we are projected to be a $5 billion IT services company, part of a Top 10 Global IT services business,” says Tim Conway, president, public sector for NTT DATA. The acquisition, when complete, will benefit federal customers, says Conway, noting they typically see acquisitions focused, in a series of federal pure plays, on where government IT needs currently stand. NTT DATA plans a different approach, says Conway. “What we can do, and what we are putting together, is to provide the services, the innovation, and to a large degree, the re-imagination that’s necessary to take the government to where it is going in the future,” says Conway. That goal includes addressing ever-mounting needs in healthcare and cybersecurity, of course – and leading with innovation driven by the commercial sector.

Dell could announce the sale of its IT services unit to Japan’s NTT for $3.5 billion as soon as Monday

Capping a process that began late last year, #Dell could announce as early as Monday the sale of the company’s IT services unit to Japan’s telecom conglomerate #NTT for $3.5 billion, sources briefed on the process tellRe/code.

Dell has been shopping the division — previously known as #PerotServices — since last fall as part of a wider effort toraise as much as $10 billion selling assets that aren’t a core part of its business.

The company wants to use those funds to help pay down part of the $50 billion in debt it will incur when it closes on its $67 billion acquisition of data storage company EMC, which would stand as the largest technology deal of all time if it goes through. The sale to NTT is seen as an important signal to the debt markets that Dell will be able to rapidly pay down that debt.
