Commvault has extended its Commvault Data Platform (CDP) with support for Nutanix hyper-converged appliances and improved on-premises-to-public-cloud mobility and protection.
The Service Pack 3 additions are:
IntelliSnap support for NEC and NutanixAPI access via S3, REST, and Office 365 Online WOPI Interfaces to CDPExtended data portability across hypervisors and cloud providersScale-out storage options with commodity hardware beyond the petabyte level
Extended hypervisor support adds #Nutanix 's #Acropolis hypervisor to the existing set – #VMware, #HyperV, #Zen and #RedHat Enterprise Virtualisation (RHEV). Supported clouds include #Azure and #AWS.
There are migration options for data and workloads to move from on-premise VMware and HyperV environments directly to Azure and AWS cloud environments.
There are new backup and recovery options for data created within and resident inside AWS cloud environments - think EMC Spanning-type functionality, plus native Amazon Machine Image (AMI) support and recovery with file-level granularity in AWS.
This all means customers can protect and manage data and workloads inside VMWare, Hyper-V, Zen, RHEV, and Acropolis. These workloads can be protected if they move from hypervisors to AWS and Azure public clouds. They can also, Commvault claims, index their SaaS applications, file systems and websites and get a single index view of on-premises and off-premises data sets.
Venugopal Pai, VP, Business Development and Alliances, at Nutanix, was well pleased – as well he might be, with his Acropolis hypervisor getting the Commvault seal of enterprise acceptability approval: “As IT organizations look to modernize their data centres, we’re pleased to see our relationship with Commvault continue to grow, specifically with its support of the Acropolis hypervisor, so customers can deploy these enterprise clouds with seamless protection by Commvault.”
Commvault says its Intellisnap now adds supports for NEC and Nutanix to existing support for Pure, Nimble, NetApp, EMC, HDS, Fujitsu, Huawei, HPE, IBM, Dell, Infinidat, DataCore and Oracle – spanning altogether 15 platforms. It says it gives it "a marketplace advantage as one of the most complete snapshot replication portfolio providers in the industry".
