Bill Rowan, vice president of federal sales at #VMware’s (NYSE: VMW), has said #softwaredefinednetworking platforms are designed to help agencies build and compartmentalize networks without shutting down the entire infrastructure in the event of a cybersecurity breach. Rowan wrote that #SDN tools could help agencies manage workloads in public cloud environments and on premises as well as oversee their employees’ mobile devices. “Most software-defined networking solutions also work with any platform, which means agencies can use multiple companies’ technology and build a truly heterogeneous environment,” he added. He also discussed the potential benefits of implementing a virtual desktop infrastructure and cloud-based software as a service offerings to agencies when it comes to managing applications and facilitating employees’ access to such apps. Rowan, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2017, also urged agencies to update legacy apps before transitioning to the cloud as well as develop policies and procedures to address potential internal and external security threats.
