Phase Change Co-Processors Extend Memory Technologies To Computing

The idea of creating data processing methods that mimic the activities of the neurons in the brain has led to new types of software, including machine learning algorithms, but it has also led to new types of hardware over the years. Many of these neuronal emulation hardware approaches use technologies also used for solid-state memory; including resistive memory, phase change memory and spin-based memories. IBM has long worked on various uses for phase change technologies as memory and just published results on using phase change devices to build artificial neurons that can provide interesting co-processor applications for computer systems. #IBM #phasechangememory
